Oscillator Overview Inadditiontobeingthesourceofthemainsystemclocktheoscillatorsalsoprovideclocksources fortheWatchdogTimerandTimeBaseInterrupts.Externaloscillatorsrequiringsomeexternal componentsaswellasfullyintegratedinternaloscillators,requiringnoexternalcomponents, areprovidedtoformawiderangeofbothfastandslowsystemoscillators.Alloscillatoroptions areselectedthroughtheconfigurationoptions.Thehigherfrequencyoscillatorsprovidehigher performancebutcarrywithitthedisadvantageofhigherpowerrequirements,whiletheopposite isofcoursetrueforthelowerfrequencyoscillators.Withthecapabilityofdynamicallyswitching betweenfastandslowsystemclock,thedevicehastheflexibilitytooptimizetheperformance/ powerratio,afeatureespeciallyimportantinpowersensitiveportableapplications.
