Nozzle Design

The LUXEON N package has no flat region for nozzle to pick (see Figure 14).

Lumileds has evaluated two possible nozzle design methods:

Method A: the nozzle cavity is closely matched to the LED dome curvature so that during the pickup process, the LED

would stay level as much as possible. The truncated dome side (see Figure 14) can provide a “hard-stop” and minimize

package tilt. Figure 15 illustrates this concept.

Figure 16, Figure 17 and Figure 18 show the pick and place nozzles without anti-stick coating, which were successfully

evaluated by Lumileds to place LUXEON N units onto a PCB.
