The AS6221 is connected to a microcontroller via an I²C bus (SDA and SCL only). Additionally the Alert output can also be used for temperature monitoring (e.g. using the interrupt mode, refer to IM bit settings), an example is given in Figure 34 where the Alert output is connected to microcontroller.
