Data Memory

TheDataMemoryisavolatileareaof8-bitwideRAMinternalmemoryandisthelocationwhere

temporaryinformationisstored.Dividedintothreesections,thefirstoftheseisanareaofRAM

wherespecialfunctionregistersarelocated.Theseregistershavefixedlocationsandarenecessary

forcorrectoperationofthedevice.Manyoftheseregisterscanbereadfromandwrittentodirectly

underprogramcontrol,however,someremainprotectedfromusermanipulation.Thesecondareaof

DataMemoryisreservedforgeneralpurposeuse.Alllocationswithinthisareaarereadandwrite

accessibleunderprogramcontrol.ThethirdareaisreservedfortheLCDMemory.Thisspecial

areaofDataMemoryismappeddirectlytotheLCDdisplaysodatawrittenintothismemoryarea

willdirectlyaffectthedisplayeddata.TheaddressesoftheLCDMemoryareaoverlapthosein

theGeneralPurposeDataMemoryarea.SwitchingbetweenthedifferentDataMemorybanksis

achievedbysettingtheBankPointertothecorrectvalue.

Structure

TheDataMemoryissubdividedintoseveralbanks,allofwhichareimplementedin8-bitwide

RAM.TheDataMemorylocatedinBank0issubdividedintotwosections,theSpecialPurpose

DataMemoryandtheGeneralPurposeDataMemory.

ThestartaddressoftheDataMemoryforalldevicesistheaddress″00H″.Registerswhichare

commontoallmicrocontroller,suchasACC,PCL,etc.,havethesameDataMemoryaddress.The

LCDMemoryismappedintoBank1.Banks2to6containonlyGeneralPurposeDataMemoryfor

thosedeviceswithlargerDataMemorycapacities.AstheSpecialPurposeDataMemoryregisters

aremappedintoallbankareas,theycansubsequentlybeaccessedfromanybanklocation.
