Temperature sensor

Thisdeviceprovidesaninternaltemperaturesensortocompensatethedeviceduetotemperature

effects.ByselectingthePGAinputchannelstobeVTSO+andVTSO-,theADCcanobtain

temperatureinformationandthedesignercanthenimplementsomecompensationontheA/D

converteddata.Thefollowingblockdiagramillustratesthefunctionaloperationofthetemperature

sensor.

Serial Interface Module – SIM

ThisdevicecontainsaSerialInterfaceModule,whichincludesboththefourlineSPIinterfaceand

thetwolineI2Cinterfacetypes,toallowaneasymethodofcommunicationwithexternalperipheral

hardware.Havingrelativelysimplecommunicationprotocols,theseserialinterfacetypesallowthe

microcontrollertointerfacetoexternalSPIorI2Cbasedhardwaresuchassensors,Flashmemory,

etc.Asbothinterfacetypessharethesamepinsandregisters,thechoiceofwhethertheSPIorI2C

typeisusedismadeusingtheSIMoperatingmodecontrolbits,namedSIM2~SIM0,intheSIMC0

registerswhentheSIMfunctionisenabledandthecorrespondingpinsareusedasSIMinputpins.

SPI Interface

TheSPIinterfaceisoftenusedtocommunicatewithexternalperipheraldevicessuchassensors,

Flashmemorydevicesetc.OriginallydevelopedbyMotorola,thefourlineSPIinterfaceisa

synchronousserialdatainterfacethathasarelativelysimplecommunicationprotocolsimplifying

theprogrammingrequirementswhencommunicatingwithexternalhardwaredevices.

Thecommunicationisfullduplexandoperatesasaslave/mastertype,wherethedevicecanbe

eithermasterorslave.AlthoughtheSPIinterfacespecificationcancontrolmultipleslavedevices

fromasinglemaster,butthisdeviceisprovidedonlyoneSCSpin.Ifthemasterneedstocontrol

multipleslavedevicesfromasinglemaster,themastercanuseI/Opintoselecttheslavedevices.
