Oscillator Overview Inadditiontobeingthesourceofthemainsystemclocktheoscillatorsalsoprovideclocksources fortheWatchdogTimerandTimeBaseInterrupts.Externaloscillatorsrequiringsomeexternal componentsaswellasfullyintegratedinternaloscillators,requiringnoexternalcomponents,are providedtoformawiderangeofbothfastandslowsystemoscillators.Alloscillatoroptionsare selectedthroughconfigurationoptions.Thehigherfrequencyoscillatorsprovidehigherperformance butcarrywithitthedisadvantageofhigherpowerrequirements,whiletheoppositeisofcoursetrue forthelowerfrequencyoscillators.Withthecapabilityofdynamicallyswitchingbetweenfastand slowsystemclock,thedevicehastheflexibilitytooptimizetheperformance/powerratio,afeature especiallyimportantinpowersensitiveportableapplications. Theactualsourceclockusedforeachofthehighandlowspeedoscillatorsischosenvia configurationoptions.Thefrequencyoftheslowspeedorhighspeedsystemclockisalso determinedusingtheHLCLKbitandCKS2~CKS0bitsintheSMODregister.Notethattwo oscillatorselectionsmustbemadenamelyonehighspeedandonelowspeedsystemoscillators. |
