Watchdog Timer
TheWatchdogTimerisprovidedtopreventprogrammalfunctionsorsequencesfromjumpingto
unknownlocations,duetocertainuncontrollableexternaleventssuchaselectricalnoise.
Watchdog Timer Clock Source
TheWatchdogTimerclocksourceisprovidedbytheinternalclock,fSUB,whichisinturnsuppliedby
theLIRCorLXToscillator.TheLXToscillatorissuppliedbyanexternal32.768kHzcrystal.The
LIRCinternaloscillatorhasanapproximatefrequencyof32kHzatasupplyvoltageof5V.However,
itshouldbenotedthatthisspecifiedinternalclockfrequencycanvarywithVDD,temperatureand
processvariations.TheWatchdogTimersourceclockisthensubdividedbyaratioof28to218togive
longertimeouts,theactualvaluebeingchosenusingtheWS2~WS0bitsintheWDTCregister.
Watchdog Timer Control Register
Asingleregister,WDTC,controlstherequiredtimeoutperiodaswellastheenable/disable
operation.ThisregistercontrolstheoveralloperationoftheWatchdogTimer.
