• StartSignal

TheSTARTsignalcanonlybegeneratedbythemasterdeviceconnectedtotheI2Cbusandnot

bythemicrocontroller,whichisonlyaslavedevice.ThisSTARTsignalwillbedetectedby

alldevicesconnectedtotheI2Cbus.Whendetected,thisindicatesthattheI2Cbusisbusyand

thereforetheHBBbitwillbeset.ASTARTconditionoccurswhenahightolowtransitiononthe

SDAlinetakesplacewhentheSCLlineremainshigh.

• SlaveAddress

ThetransmissionofaSTARTsignalbythemasterwillbedetectedbyalldevicesontheI2C

bus.Todeterminewhichslavedevicethemasterwishestocommunicatewith,theaddressofthe

slavedevicewillbesentoutimmediatelyfollowingtheSTARTsignal.Allslavedevices,after

receivingthis7-bitaddressdata,willcompareitwiththeirown7-bitslaveaddress.Iftheaddress

sentoutbythemastermatchestheinternaladdressofthemicrocontrollerslavedevice,thenan

internalI2Cbusinterruptsignalwillbegenerated.Thenextbitfollowingtheaddress,whichis

the8thbit,definestheread/writestatusandwillbesavedtotheSRWbitoftheSIMC1register.

Thedevicewillthentransmitanacknowledgebit,whichisalowlevel,asthe9thbit.The

microcontrollerslavedevicewillalsosetthestatusflagHAASwhentheaddressesmatch.

AsanI2Cbusinterruptcancomefromtwosources,whentheprogramenterstheinterrupt

subroutine,theHAASbitshouldbeexaminedtoseewhethertheinterruptsourcehascomefrom

amatchingslaveaddressorfromthecompletionofadatabytetransfer.Whenaslaveaddressis

matched,thedevicemustbeplacedineitherthetransmitmodeandthenwritedatatotheSIMDR

toreleasetheSCLline.
