RAM Data Memory

TheDataMemoryisavolatileareaof8-bitwideRAMinternalmemoryandisthelocationwhere

temporaryinformationisstored.

Dividedintofourtypes,thefirstoftheseisanareaofRAMwherespecialfunctionregistersare

located.Theseregistershavefixedlocationsandarenecessaryforcorrectoperationofthedevice.

Manyoftheseregisterscanbereadfromandwrittentodirectlyunderprogramcontrol,however,

someremainprotectedfromusermanipulation.ThesecondareaofDataMemoryisreservedfor

generalpurposeuse.Alllocationswithinthisareaarereadandwriteaccessibleunderprogram

control.ThethirdareaisreservedfortheLCDMemory.ThisspecialareaofDataMemoryismapped

directlytotheLCDdisplaysodatawrittenintothismemoryareawilldirectlyaffectthedisplayed

data.ThefourthareaisusedfortheSinePatternfunction.TheaddressesoftheLCDMemoryarea

andtheSinePatternMemoryareaoverlapthoseintheGeneralPurposeDataMemoryarea.

Structure

TheDataMemoryissubdividedintoseveralsectors,allofwhichareimplementedin8-bitwide

RAM.EachoftheDataMemorySectoriscategorizedintotwotypes,thespecialPurposeData

MemoryandtheGeneralPurposeDataMemory.Whilethe80H~A3HofSector1isLCDMemory

andthe80H~BFHofSector2isSinePatternMemory.

ThestartaddressoftheDataMemoryforthedeviceistheaddress00Hwhilethestartaddressof

theGeneralPurposeDataMemory,LCDMemoryorSinePatternMemoryistheaddress80H.The

SpecialPurposeDataMemoryregistersareaccessibleinallsectors,withtheexceptionoftheEEC

registerataddress40H,andtheFC0,FC1andFC2registersataddresses28H~2AH,whichareonly

accessibleinsector1.SwitchingbetweenthedifferentDataMemorysectorsisachievedbysetting

theMemoryPointerstothecorrectvalue.

Thereare256bytesofgeneralpurposedatamemorywhicharearrangedin80H~FFHofSector0

andSector3.Allmicrocontrollerprogramsrequireanareaofread/writememorywheretemporary

datacanbestoredandretrievedforuselater.ItisthisareaofRAMmemorythatisknownas

GeneralPurposeDataMemory.ThisareaofDataMemoryisfullyaccessiblebytheuserprograming

forbothreadingandwritingoperations.Byusingthebitoperationinstructionsindividualbitscanbe

setorresetunderprogramcontrolgivingtheuseralargerangeofflexibilityforbitmanipulationin

theDataMemory.
