Introduction

With the introduction of the VIPower M0-5 technology, important improvements have been

introduced in the analog current sense operation.

The block diagram of a M0-5 high-side driver with analog current sense is shown in

Figure 16.

As with the previous generations, the current sense block has a double function:

●

Current mirror of the load current in normal operation, delivering a current proportional

to the load current according to a known ratio named K;

●

Diagnostics flag in fault conditions, delivering a fixed voltage with a certain current

capability in case of overload and open load in off-state condition.

The current delivered by the current sense circuit can be easily converted to a voltage by

means of an external sense resistor, thus allowing continuous load monitoring and fault

condition detection.
