Forlargevolumeapplications,whichincorporateanLCDintheirdesign,theuseofacustom

displayratherthanamoreexpensivecharacterbaseddisplayreducescostssignificantly.However,

thecorrespondingCOMandSEGsignalsrequired,whichvaryinbothamplitudeandtime,todrive

suchacustomdisplayrequiremanyspecialconsiderationsforproperLCDoperationtooccur.This

devicecontainsanLCDDriverfunction,whichwithitsinternalLCDsignalgeneratingcircuitryand

variousoptions,willautomaticallygeneratethesetimeandamplitudevaryingsignalstoprovidea

meansofdirectdrivingandeasyinterfacingtoarangeofcustomLCDs.

LCD Display Memory

ThedeviceprovidesanareaofembeddeddatamemoryforLCDdisplay.Thisareaislocatedfrom

80Hto97HoftheRAMatBank1.Bankpointer(BP)istheswitchbetweentheRAMandtheLCD

displaymemory.WhenBP.2~BP.0issetto“001”,datawritteninto80H~97HwillaffecttheLCD

display.IftheBP.2~BP.0issettoavalueotherthan“001”,anydatawritteninto80H~FFHismeant

toaccessthegeneralpurposedatamemory.

TheLCDdisplaymemorycanbereadandwrittentoonlybyindirectaddressingmodeusingMP1.

Whendataiswrittenintothedisplaydataarea,itisautomaticallyreadbytheLCDdriverwhich

thengeneratesthecorrespondingLCDdrivingsignals.Toturnthedisplayonoroff,a“1”ora“0”

iswrittentothecorrespondingbitofthedisplaymemory,respectively.Thefigureillustratesthe

mappingbetweenthedisplaymemoryandLCDpatternforthedevice.
