UART External Pin Interfacing Tocommunicatewithanexternalserialinterface,theinternalUARThastwoexternalpinsknown asTXandRX.TheTXpinistheUARTtransmitterpin,whichcanbeusedasageneralpurposeI/O orotherpin-sharedfunctionalpinifthepinisnotconfiguredasaUARTtransmitter,whichoccurs whentheTXENbitintheUCR2controlregisterisequaltozero.Similarly,theRXpinistheUART receiverpin,whichcanalsobeusedasageneralpurposeI/Oorotherpin-sharedfunctionalpin,if thepinisnotconfiguredasareceiver,whichoccursiftheRXENbitintheUCR2registerisequalto zero.AlongwiththeUARTENbit,theTXENandRXENbits,ifset,willautomaticallysetupthese I/Oorotherpin-sharedfunctionalpinstotheirrespectiveTXoutputandRXinputconditionsand disableanypull-highresistoroptionwhichmayexistontheRXpin. UART Data Transfer Scheme TheblockdiagramshowstheoveralldatatransferstructurearrangementfortheUART.Theactual datatobetransmittedfromtheMCUisfirsttransferredtotheTXRregisterbytheapplication program.ThedatawillthenbetransferredtotheTransmitShiftRegisterfromwhereitwillbe shiftedout,LSBfirst,ontotheTXpinataratecontrolledbytheBaudRateGenerator.Onlythe TXRregisterismappedontotheMCUDataMemory,theTransmitShiftRegisterisnotmappedand isthereforeinaccessibletotheapplicationprogram. |
