The S1 byte is used to carry synchronization status messages between line terminating network elements. S1[7] is the most significant bit, corresponding to the first bit (bit 1) received. S1[0] is the least significant bit, corresponding to the last bit (bit 8) received. An interrupt may be generated when a byte value is received that differs from the value extracted in the previous frame using the S1E bit in the APS Control/Status Register. |
