I/O Port Control Register EachPorthasitsowncontrolregister,knownasPAC,whichcontrolstheinput/outputconfiguration. Withthiscontrolregister,eachI/Opinwithorwithoutpull-highresistorscanbereconfigured dynamicallyundersoftwarecontrol.FortheI/Opintofunctionasaninput,thecorrespondingbitof thecontrolregistermustbewrittenasa“1”.Thiswillthenallowthelogicstateoftheinputpinto bedirectlyreadbyinstructions.Whenthecorrespondingbitofthecontrolregisteriswrittenasa“0”, theI/OpinwillbesetupasaCMOSoutput.Ifthepiniscurrentlysetupasanoutput,instructions canstillbeusedtoreadtheoutputregister. However,itshouldbenotedthattheprogramwillinfactonlyreadthestatusoftheoutputdatalatch andnottheactuallogicstatusoftheoutputpin. Pin-shared Functions Theflexibilityofthemicrocontrollerrangeisgreatlyenhancedbytheuseofpinsthathavemore thanonefunction.Limitednumbersofpinscanforceseriousdesignconstraintsondesignersbutby supplyingpinswithmulti-functions,manyofthesedifficultiescanbeovercome.Forthesepins,the desiredfunctionofthemulti-functionI/Opinsisselectedbyaregisterviatheapplicationprogram control. Pin-shared Function Selection Registers Thelimitednumberofsuppliedpinsinapackagecanimposerestrictionsontheamountoffunctions acertaindevicecancontain.Howeverbyallowingthesamepinstoshareseveraldifferentfunctions andprovidingameansoffunctionselection,awiderangeofdifferentfunctionscanbeincorporated intoevenrelativelysmallpackagesizes.Thisdeviceincludespin-sharedfunctionselectionregister, labeledasPSEL,whichcanselectthedesiredfunctionsofthemulti-functionpin-sharedpins. Themostimportantpointtonoteistomakesurethatthedesiredpin-sharedfunctionisproperly selectedandalsodeselected.Toselectthedesiredpin-sharedfunction,thepin-sharedfunction shouldfirstbecorrectlyselectedusingthecorrespondingpin-sharedcontrolregister.Afterthatthe correspondingperipheralfunctionalsettingshouldbeconfiguredandthentheperipheralfunction canbeenabled.Tocorrectlydeselectthepin-sharedfunction,theperipheralfunctionshouldfirstbe disabledandthenthecorrespondingpin-sharedfunctioncontrolregistercanbemodifiedtoselect otherpin-sharedfunctions. |
