upgradesandmodificationstotheirprogramsonthesamedevice.Asanadditionalconvenience,

Holtekhasprovidedameansofprogrammingthemicrocontrollerin-circuitusinga5-pininterface.

Thisprovidesmanufacturerswiththepossibilityofmanufacturingtheircircuitboardscompletewith

aprogrammedorun-programmedmicrocontroller,andthenprogrammingorupgradingtheprogram

atalaterstage.Thisenablesproductmanufacturerstoeasilykeeptheirmanufacturedproducts

suppliedwiththelatestprogramreleaseswithoutremovalandre-insertionofthedevice.

TheProgramMemoryandEEPROMdatamemorycanbothbeprogrammedseriallyin-circuitusing

this5-wireinterface.Dataisdownloadedanduploadedseriallyonasinglepinwithanadditional

linefortheclock.Twoadditionallinesarerequiredforthepowersupplyandonelineforthereset.

Thetechnicaldetailsregardingthein-circuitprogrammingofthedevicearebeyondthescopeofthis

documentandwillbesuppliedinsupplementaryliterature.

DuringtheprogrammingprocesstheRESpinwillbeheldlowbytheprogrammerdisablingthe

normaloperationofthemicrocontrollerandtakingcontrolofthePA0andPA2I/Opinsfordataand

clockprogrammingpurposes.Theusermusttakecaretoensurethatnootheroutputsareconnected

tothesetwopins.
