Watchdog Timer
TheWatchdogTimerisprovidedtopreventprogrammalfunctionsorsequencesfromjumpingto
unknownlocations,duetocertainuncontrollableexternaleventssuchaselectricalnoise.
Watchdog Timer Clock Source
TheWatchdogTimerclocksourceisprovidedbytheinternalclock,whichissourcedfromtheLIRC
oscillator.TheWatchdogTimersourceclockisthensubdividedbyaratioof28to218togivelonger
timeouts,theactualvaluebeingchosenusingtheWS2~WS0bitsintheWDTCregister.TheLIRC
internaloscillatorhasanapproximateperiodof32kHzatasupplyvoltageof5V.
However,itshouldbenotedthatthisspecifiedinternalclockperiodcanvarywithVDD,temperature
andprocessvariations.
Watchdog Timer Control Register
Asingleregister,WDTC,controlstherequiredtimeoutperiodaswellastheenable/disable
operation.TheWRFsoftwareresetflagwillbeindicatedintheCTRLregister.Thisregistertogether
withseveraloptionscontroltheoveralloperationoftheWatchdogTimer.
